2064854 9201615 PCTABS00010 A system uses a single chute (1) in a multi-story building to collect into separate large receptacles (7) different categories of wastes already separated by the tenant (9) for recycling. A turntable (4) carries a large receptacle (7) for each category of waste. Control means (11) on each floor (3) enables a tenant (9) to operate the turntable (4) to position a selected receptacle (7) beneath the chute (1) to receive a particular category of waste. A microprocessor controller (12) and interlocks (13) on the access doors (2) prevent conflicts between floors. An optional reciprocating ram compacts the waste in the receptacle.
