An adjustable vehicle steering column clamping mechanism for a rake and reach adjustable steering column includes a steering column support bracket (3) which has two flanks (3A) extending on either side of a steering column outer tube (9), each flank (3A) incorporating a slot (3B) to permit rake adjustment. A reach adjustment bracket means (8) has two flanks (8A) which extend on either side of the tube (9) and lie adjacent the flanks (3B) of the bracket (3), the flanks (8A) also having slots (8B) extending parallel to the tube axis (9A) for reach adjustment. The flanks (8A) are spaced from the tube (9A) so as to accept heads (10A) of clamping bolts (10) operated by a handle (9) acting on associated clamping parts (12) mounted on the bolts (10). The arrangement enables the bolts to be located on a substantially on-centre line passing at right angles through the axis of the steering column.

Un mécanisme de blocage de colonne de direction réglable de véhicule pour colonne orientable et extensible, comporte une patte d'attache (3) dont les deux flancs (3A) s'étendent des deux cotés d'un tube externe (9) de la colonne, chacun (3A) étant pourvu d'une fente (3B) afin de permettre le réglage de l'inclinaison. Une autre patte d'attache destinée au réglage en extension (8) comprend aussi deux flancs (8A) s'étendant des deux cotés du tube (9) et adjacents aux flancs (3A) de la première patte (3), les flancs 8A étant également pourvue de fentes (8B) s'étendant parallèlement à l'axe (9A) du tube afin de permettre le réglage en extension. Ces flancs (8A) sont à une certaine distance du tube (9A) de manière à recevoir les têtes de boulons de blocage (10) manoeuvrés par un manchon (9) qui agit sur les éléments de blocage associés (12) montés sur les boulons (10). Cet agencement permet de placer les boulons sur une ligne sensiblement centrale et de leur faire traverser à angle droit l'axe de la colonne de direction.
