ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Gasoline and other fuel dispensing nozzles are often unnecessarily complicated, tend to drip following use, and cause pressure surges or hammering in the feed hose and pump. A solution to these problems is afforded by a nozzle for use on the end of a fuel hose which includes a tubular housing; a main valve in the housing downstream of the middle thereof in the direction of fuel flow; a control valve which is opened by movement of an operating lever, and which diverts liquid from the main valve to cause a pressure drop and opening of such main valve; a pressure valve connected to the control valve for closing when the fuel rising in the fuel tank or other receiver blocks a port in the outlet end of the nozzle, the closing of the pressure valve resulting in closing of the main valve, closing of the control valve, and the return of the operating lever to the rest position; and a detent on the operating lever for releasably retaining the lever in one of a plurality of open positions.
