A hood-type annealing furnace comprises an annealing base (1) for supporting the annealing goods (2) and a protective hood (3) tightly placed onto the annealing base (1). Inside the annealing base (1) there is provided a fan including a central impeller (4) and a distributor (5) surrounding the same. To achieve a quicker cooling after the heat treatment, a sealable annular gap (7) is disposed between the impeller (4) and the distributor (5), behind which annular gap a heat exchanger (8) is provided, from which the partial quantity of protective gas branched off into the annular gap (7) can flow back into the protective hood (3).
