The protective apparatus (1) embodies a safety guard (2) comprising: a thread (4), which can be screwed onto the cylinder cap thread of a compressed gas cylinder, and a first guard (6) that is permanently attached to the thread (4) and projects laterally from the gas cylinder (3) such that in essence it extends adjacent to a pressure reduction valve (8) that can be attached to the compressed gas cylinder (3).
