A method for measuring traffic at nodes in a network is disclosed. Probe packets are sent to a node at (at least) two different times. The packets are given a TTL value that expires at the node to be tested, which will make the node send back a packet to the source node. The difference in sequence number of the (at least) two reply packets is an indication of how many packets the node had to handle in the meantime, and thus indication of the load of the node. The test system is used in a call center and allows the call center operator to determine traffic loads at network nodes even when in different administrative domains.
