Presbyopia is treated by a system using various lasers to remove a portion of the scleral tissue and increase the accommodation of the presbyopic patient's eye. Stable accommodation is achieved by the filing of the sub-conjunctiva tissue to the laser-ablated scleral areas. The proposed laser wavelength ranges from ultraviolet to infrared of (0.15-0.36) microns, (0.5-1.4) microns and (0.9-3.2) microns. Both scanning and fiber delivered systems are proposed to generate the ablation patterns. Laser ablation of the sclera may be conducted with or without opening the conjunctiva layer.

Selon la présente invention, on traite la presbytie à l'aide d'un système faisant appel à divers lasers pour éliminer une partie du tissu sclérotique et augmenter l'accommodation de l'oeil du patient presbyte. On obtient une accommodation stable par remplissage du tissu sous-conjonctival dans les zones sclérotiques ablatées par laser. Les longueurs d'ondes du laser proposé s'étendent de l'ultraviolet à l'infrarouge de (0,15-0,36) microns, (0,5-1,4) microns et (0,9-3,2) microns. Des systèmes d'apport par fibres et d'exploration sont proposés pour générer les motifs d'ablation. L'ablation par laser du sclérotique peut être menée avec ou sans ouverture de la couche conjonctive.
