ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a control arrangement for goal posts. An electromagnet protrudes from a playing surface and holds the goal post in position during normal play. A remote control system is provided whereby the electromagnet is normally energized during play but is de-energized by an official if a player is likely to injure himself by crashing into the goal post. Instead of an electromagnetic system a retractable vertical rod system may be provided.
