An improved method is provided for disseminating information in an ad hoc wireless network. In this method, an incoming message is received at a recipient node of the network. A retransmission of the message is scheduled such that the schedule time for the retransmission is proportional to a signal strength at which the message was received by the recipient node. The retransmission of the message is canceled, when the same message is received from a different node in the network prior to the schedule time for the retransmission. The effect is reduced network traffic on the network with minimized latency.
