A device is provided that interfaces with existing point of sale credit card reading devices, and furnishes the option of transmitting data over either the existing modem installation or a radio frequency data communication network. The device scans the information encoded on the credit card to determine which data transmission path is appropriate for a particular transaction. The device software generates the necessary signals to simulate the normal interaction between the POS card-reader device and a modem. The software also converts between serial and packetized data in order to request and receive credit card purchase autorizations over the radio frequency data communication network.
On décrit un dispositif qui sert d'interface avec les dispositifs de lecture de cartes de crédit existant aux points de vente et donne le choix de transmettre les données soit par le modem existant soit par un réseau de communications de données par fréquence radio. Ce dispositif parcourt les informations codées sur la carte de crédit pour déterminer quel vecteur de transmission de données convient pour une transaction donnée. Le logiciel du dispositif produit des signaux nécessaires pour simuler l'interaction normale entre le dispositif de lecture de carte d'un point de vente et un modem. Ce logiciel convertit aussi les données sérielles et les données en paquets pour demander et recevoir des autorisations d'achat par carte de crédit pour le réseau de communications de données par fréquence radio.
