In a method for recovering a floatable surface layer from a body of water, particularly a surface layer comprising a buoyant pollutant, such as oil, a collection compartment (A) having a skiming weir (K) at its top is provided in the body of water and filled with water. With the skimming weir held in an overflow position relative to the surface of the body of water, water is discharged from the collection compartment (A) so that the collection compartment can be replenished from the surface of the body of water with water flowing over the skimming weir (K). Apparatus for carrying out the recovery comprises a collection vessel (11, 31), which is immersible in a body of water and defines the collection compartment (A) and which has a skimming weir (K) which forms an inlet into the upper end of the collection compartment (A), and means (17, 18, 35, 36), such as a reversible pump, for discharging water from the collection compartment.
Procédé de récupération d'une couche flottant à la surface d'une masse d'eau, notamment d'une couche renfermant un agent polluant flottant, comme du pétrole. Le dispositif, qui comporte un compartiment de collecte (A) pourvu d'un déversoir (K) à son sommet, est immergé dans la masse d'eau après avoir été rempli d'eau. Le déversoir étant maintenu en position de débordement par rapport à la surface de l'eau, et l'eau est libérée du compartiment de collecte (A) de telle sorte que ce compartiment puisse se remplir à partir de la surface de la masse d'eau tandis que celle-ci s'écoule en franchissant le déversoir (K). Le dispositif assurant la collecte comprend une cuve de collecte (11, 31), qui peut être immergée dans la masse d'eau et définit le compartiment de collecte (A), et qui comporte un déversoir (K) qui constitue l'admission à l'extrémité supérieure du compartiment de collecte (A), et un système (17, 18, 35, 36), tel qu'une pompe réversible, permettant d'évacuer l'eau du compartiment de collecte.
