A single-site olefin polymerization catalyst and method of making it are disclosed. The catalyst comprises an activator and an organometallic complex. The complex comprises a Group 3 to 10 transition or lanthanide metal, M, and at least one chelating N-oxide ligand that is bonded to M. Molecular modeling results indicate that single-site catalysts based on certain chelating N-oxide ligands (e.g., 2-hydroxypyridine) will rival the performance of catalysts based on cyclopentadienyl and substituted cyclopentadienyl ligands.

L'invention porte sur un catalyseur de polymérisation oléfinique à site unique et sur son procédé de fabrication. Le catalyseur comprend un activateur et un complexe organométallique. Le complexe comprend un métal de transition ou lanthanide des groupes 3 à 10, M et au moins un ligand N-oxyde de chélation qui est lié à M. Les résultats de modélisation moléculaire indiquent que des catalyseurs à site unique basés sur certains ligands N-oxydes de chélation (tels que 2-hydrosypyridine) rivaliseront en performance avec des catalyseurs basés sur des ligands cyclopentadiényl et cyclopentadiényl substitué.
