Abstract of the Disclosure: A support assembly for beds, sofas and the like has an air supply, with which the sir distribution between transversely and longitudinally extending air hoses can be individually adjusted. The air supply may be effected through an air reservoir in the foot region of the support assembly. The air can be admitted into the reservoir from the air hoses upon demand or vice versa. Transversely extending air hoses for the region of the cervical vertebra and for the lower spine in the hip region provide for varying the body contour in the support assembly between the shoulder region and the hip region both in a lying position and in a sitting position. The support assembly is therefore prefera- bly applicable in the context of hospitals, but also for home use. an additional ventilation system which is adapted to the specifically layered structure is provided for the evacuation of extra humidity.
