(57) Abstract An electrode for stimulating and/or detecting the muscle activity of muscles or muscle groups of a patient. The electrode (1) comprises a carrier (2) and electrically conductive contacts (8). Via a cable the contacts (8) are connectable to a stimulation/ detection device. The carrier (2) is provided with contact elements (4). An elongated throw-away sheath (10) of isolation material is detachably connectable to the carrier (2). When the sheath (10) is fixed in position the contacts (8) are on the outside of the sheath (10) and are connected to the contact elements (4).
