The invention relates to a method for producing a tampon (T) wrapped in a protective cover, from a preform (V) which is preferably pre-formed by winding a fibrous nonwoven strip. Said preform (V) is formed in such a way as to form the tampon in separate compression steps by compression forces acting thereon from the outside, and is provided with a film sleeve (10) as a protective cover tightly surrounding the tampon (T), for the individual wrapping thereof. The aim of the invention is to reduce the production means require to produce a tampon, especially a non-circular tampon, up to the individual wrapping thereof in the protective cover. To this end, the essentially cylindrical preform (V) is arranged in the film sleeve (10) surrounding at least the envelope surface of the preform (V), before the last deformation step (15). The preform (V) is then supplied, with the surrounding film sleeve (10), to the last step (15), and formed between at least two compression jaws (20a, 20b) that can be moved in relation to each other, until a non-cylindrical end form is obtained.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un tampon (T) fabriqué dans une gaine de protection, à partir d'une ébauche (V) de préférence préformée par enroulement d'une bande de non-tissé fibreux. L'ébauche (V) est formée sous forme de tampon dans des étapes de compression séparées sous l'effet de forces de compression agissant par l'extérieur, et pourvue d'une gaine pelliculée (10) entourant fixement le tampon (T) en tant que gaine de protection, pour la fabrication individuelle. L'invention vise à réduire les moyens de production destinés à la fabrication d'un tampon, notamment d'un tampon non circulaire, jusqu'à fabrication individuelle dans la gaine de protection. A cet effet, l'ébauche essentiellement cylindrique (V) est disposée dans la gaine pelliculée (10) entourant au moins la surface d'enveloppe de l'ébauche (V), avant la dernière étape de déformation. L'ébauche (V) est ensuite amenée à la dernière étape (15) avec la gaine pelliculée (10) qui l'entoure, puis formée entre au moins deux mâchoires de compression (20a, 20b), mobiles l'une par rapport à l'autre, jusqu'à atteinte d'une forme finale non cylindrique.
