A ligating band dispenser (33) for dispensing a plurality of ligating bands (95, 96, 97) individually during a sequence of operations for a ligating instrument (25). Interfitted housing (45) and piston (46) segments support a plurality of ligating bands at axially spaced locations. Retraction of the piston segment dispenses on ligating band and shifts the remaining ligating bands distally and axially. After retraction, the piston is biased forward so a next retraction dispenses another ligating band.
