A method and system for treating aneurysms by applying RF energy to collagen. A catheter is disposed near the aneurysm and collagen is exuded into or near the aneurysm. RF energy is applied, using the same catheter or a second catheter, to the collagen, causing the collagen to harden and cover the weak region of the blood vessel wall, and providing a base onto which epithelial cells of the blood vessel may grow. The catheter comprises an electrophysiology catheter, including a ring electrode preferably disposed to deliver between about 5 and about 30 watts of RF energy at a frequency preferably between about 450 and about 600 Megahertz, to apply sufficient energy to cause the collagen to harden while avoiding damage to surrounding tissue.
Procédé et système permettant de traiter des anévrismes par application d'énergie haute fréquence sur du collagène. On place un cathéter à proximité de l'anévrisme et on exsude du collagène dans l'anévrisme ou à son voisinage. On applique sur le collagène de l'énergie haute fréquence à l'aide du même cathéter ou d'un deuxième cathéter ceci ayant pour effet de durcir le collagène qui recouvre la partie affaiblie de la paroi du vaisseau sanguin et devient alors un substrat sur lequel peuvent se développer des cellules épithéliales du vaisseau sanguin. Le cathéter est constitué d'un cathéter électrophysiologique comportant une électrode annulaire placée de préférence de manière à libérer une énergie haute fréquence comprise entre environ 5 et environ 30 watts à une fréquence comprise préférablement entre environ 450 et environ 600 megahertz pour appliquer suffisamment d'énergie sur le collagène pour que ce dernier durcisse sans pour autant endommager les tissus voisins.
