A method for the treatment of an inflammatory complaint including the step of administration of a compound of general formulae (I to XII) described herein in figure or mixtures thereof to a subject suffering from said inflammatory complaint. There is also included a therapeutic agent for relief of inflammatory complaints which includes a compound of general formulae (I to XII) as described in figure or mixtures thereof in combination with an appropriate filler which is preferably dicalcium phosphate. The invention also includes within its scope plant extracts which may contain one or more of the above-mentioned compounds and in particular plant extracts of the genus Umbelliferae, celery (Apium graveolens), parsley (Petroselimun hortense) and dill (Anethum graveolens). It is believed that compounds of the above-mentioned formulae and in particular butylphthalide, sedanenolide. and sedanolide (in both cis and trans forms otherwise known as essential oils which are mainly derived from plants) mimic the physiological response of essential fatty acids and also their prostaglandin anologues.

Un procédé pour le traitement d'une maladie inflammatoire comprend une étape d'administration d'un composé selon les formules générales (I à XII) décrites dans la figure, ou leurs mélanges, à un sujet souffrant de ladite maladie inflammatoire. L'invention concerne également un agent thérapeutique conçu pour le soulagement des maladies inflammatoires et qui comprend un composé selon les formules (I à XII) décrites dans la figure, ou leurs mélanges, en combinaison avec un élément d'apport qui est de préférence du phosphate de bicalcium. L'invention comprend également des extraits de plantes qui peuvent contenir un ou plusieurs des composants mentionnés ci-dessus et en particulier des extraits de plantes du genre ombelifères, céleri (Apium graveolens), persil (Petroselium hortense) et aneth (Anethum graveolens). Il est admis que les composés selon les formules mentionnées ci-dessus et en particulier le butylphtalide, la sédanénolide et la sédanolide (sous formes cis et trans connues autrement comme des huiles essentielles dérivées principalement des plantes) simulent la réponse physiologique des acides gras essentiels et aussi de leurs analogues prostaglandine.
