Disclosed is a method to determine target azimuth by the use of a radar, especially of the ASR type. The radar sends out a wave of detections by N-pulse bursts. The method comprises at least the following steps in one burst: a step in which the burst is split up into two half bursts, one front burst and one rear burst; a step for the filtering of the half burst to associate an azimuth value ?1 and an amplitude value A1 with the front burst, and an azimuth value ?2 and an amplitude value A2 with the rear burst; a step to obtain the target azimuth Az at a value corresponding to the maximum of a Gaussian curve passing through the points having components (.theta.1, A1), (.theta.2, A2). The invention can be applied especially to surveillance radars used, for example, in air traffic management applications.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de détermination de l'azimut d'une cible par un radar, notamment du type ASR. Le radar émettant une onde de détections par rafales de N impulsions, il comporte au moins les étapes suivantes à une rafale: - une étape où la rafale est scindée en au moins deux demi- rafaies, une rafale avant et une rafale arrière ; - une étape de filtrage des demi-rafales pour associer une valeur d'azimut .theta.1 et une valeur d'amplitude A1 à la rafale avant, et une valeur d'azimut .theta.2 et une valeur d'amplitude A2 à la rafale arrière ; - une étape d'obtention de l'azimut Az de la cible comme correspondant au maximum d'une gausslenne (31) passant par les points de composantes (.theta.1, A1), (.theta.2, A2). L'invention s'applique notamment pour des radars de surveillance, utilisés par exemple dans des applications de gestion du trafic aérien.
