A tension ring closure for a container tensioning ring comprises a pair of rings ends arranged to slide over each other in a closed position, and a tensioning lever coupled to the ring ends for tensioning the ring in the closed position. The tensioning lever is secured against unauthorized opening. An outwardly oriented lock loop is located in the vicinity of the lower ring end, and passes through an opening in the outer ring end when the tensioning ring is in the closed position. In this manner, the outer ring end is secured against accidental displacement.
