A fuel cell system includes a first power generation module configured to have a power generation assembly including a catalyst, an anode-side non-power generation structure placed in contact with the power generation assembly, and a cathode-side non-power generation structure placed on opposite to the power generation assembly across the power generation assembly, at least one second power generation module placed adjacent to the first power generation module, and a current regulation circuit connected in parallel to each of the power generation modules. The fuel cell system has a current controller configured to, when a cell voltage representing a voltage between the anode-side non-power generation structure and the cathode-side non-power generation structure is not higher than a preset first voltage that is a negative voltage, control the current regulator connected in parallel to the first power generation module to increase an amount of electric current flowing in a first direction from the anode-side non-power generation structure to the cathode-side non-power generation structure.
