ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A long sheet material is passed continuously through a slit inlet formed in a wall of a vessel containing a coating liquid (e.g., paint), through the paint, out of the vessel through a slit outlet formed in an oppo- site wall at a level below the surface of the paint, and between means for regulating the thicknesses of the coating paint films thus applied simultane- ouly ant continuously to the two sides of the sheet material to specific values. The sheet thus coated is then caused to travel through a long un- supported span thereof in which the coating paint films are set by drying or baking.
