A medical device with pivotable jaws and method of use thereof are disclosed. The device includes a pair of jaw members which are capable of being rotated independently of one another and spaced apart up to about 360°. Various gear arrangements are provided for enabling rotation of the jaws. The jaw members are disposed within a flexible slotted housing when advanced to a target tissue site, and thereafter rotated out of the housing a predetermined amount to contact target tissue.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif médical à mâchoires pivotantes et sur son procédé d'utilisation. Le dispositif comprend une paire d'éléments de mâchoire qui sont capables de tourner indépendamment l'un de l'autre et espacés jusqu'à environ 360°. On présente divers agencements d'engrenage destinés à permettre une rotation des mâchoires. Les éléments de mâchoire sont disposés dans un boîtier fendu souple lorsqu'on les fait avancer vers un site de tissu cible, puis on les fait tourner hors du boîtier selon une amplitude prédéterminée afin qu'il entrent en contact avec le tissu cible.
