An extended nip press apparatus (10) is disclosed for removing water from a web (W). The apparatus (10) includes a rotatable backing roll (12) and an elongate shoe (14) which cooperate with the backing roll (12) for defining therebetween an extended nip (16) for the passage therethrough of the web (W). The shoe (14) defines a concave surface (18). A bearing blanket (20) is movably disposed between the backing roll (12) and the concave surface (18). The arrangement is such that the web (W) is supported by the blanket (20) with the web (W) being disposed between the blanket (20) and the backing roll (12). A lubricant (26) is supplied between the concave surface (18) and the blanket (20) such that the blanket (20) is slidingly supported by the concave surface (18) during passage of the blanket (20) through the extended nip (16). The concave surface (18) encompasses a pocket (28) defined by the shoe (14). The arrangement is such that the pocket (28) is filled with lubricant (26) flowing from the concave surface (18) so that in the event of a wad of the web entering into the extended nip (16), the wad is yieldingly received within the pocket (28) so that damage to the blanket (20) by the wad is minimized.

Le sabot (14) définit une surface concave (18). Un feutre de support (20) est monté mobile entre le contre-rouleau (12) et la surface concave (18). Un lubrifiant (26) est introduit entre la surface concave (18) et le feutre (20) de telle sorte que ce dernier (20) est soutenu de manière coulissante par la surface concave (18) lors du passage du feutre (20) à travers la ligne de contact allongée (16). La surface concave (18) délimite une cavité (28) dans le sabot (14). L'agencement est tel que la cavité (28) est remplie de lubrifiant (26) débordant de la surface concave (18), de telle sorte qu'au cas où un bouchon formé par la bande pénétrerait dans la ligne de contact allongée (16), le bouchon serait reçu de manière élastique à l'intérieur de la cavité (28), de façon à réduire au minimum les dégâts causés au feutre (20) par le bouchon.
