An optical catheter connection system is described which has two mating assemblies: A motor unit (3) and an optical catheter connector (1). The optical catheter connector (1) mates to the motor unit (3) for coupling optical signal into and out of a catheter optical fiber and providing drive torque to the catheter optical fiber. The motor unit (3) includes a rotary shaft (2) powered by a motor for providing drive torque to the catheter optical fiber to rotate the fiber. The motor unit (3) further includes a split sleeve for aligning a motor optical fiber with the catheter optical fiber for coupling optical signals between the two fibers. In one embodiment, a shield is provided around the outer surface of the optical catheter connector to help maintain a sterile field by forming a barrier between a clinician's sterile hand, which holds the optical catheter connector, and the non-sterile motor unit.
L'invention concerne un système de connexion pour cathéter optique présentant deux ensembles d'accouplement, tels qu'une unité moteur (3) et un connecteur(1) pour cathéter optique. Ledit connecteur (1) pour cathéter optique est accouplé à l'unité moteur (3), de façon à coupler un signal optique à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur de la fibre optique du cathéter et à fournir un couple d'entraînement à la fibre optique du cathéter. Ladite unité moteur (3) comprend un arbre rotatif (2) alimenté par un moteur et destiné à fournir un couple d'entraînement à la fibre optique du cathéter, de façon à faire tourner la fibre optique. Ladite unité moteur (3) comprend également un manchon fendu, destiné à aligner une fibre optique du moteur et la fibre optique du cathéter, ceci permettant de coupler des signaux optiques entre les deux fibres. Dans un mode de réalisation, une gaine est placée autour de la surface extérieure du connecteur pour cathéter optique, de façon à maintenir un champ stérile au moyen de la formation d'une barrière entre la main stérile de clinicien, qui tient ledit connecteur pour cathéter optique, et l'unité moteur non stérile.
