A method for passively detecting the presence of radar signal emitters, in which an ESM unit receives radar signals with a number of antennas, each antenna covering a sector of the surrounding terrain. In order to conserve bandwidth, a technique is used, in which receiving channel is slit into a number of sub-bands. Each sub-band is converted to an IF channel. The individual IF channels are combined into a common IF channel in an adder. This process is repeated once more in order to bring the signals down to baseband, where they are digitized and processed to find the direction to and the identity of the emitter source. A number of ESM units are connected to a control centre. In the control centre the position of the radar emitter is determined by triangulation. In addition, the identity of the emitter is determined by comparison with known emitter signatures stored in a database.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de détecter de manière passive la présence d'émetteurs de signaux radar, selon lequel une unité ESM reçoit des signaux radar au moyen d'une pluralité d'antennes, chaque antenne couvrant un secteur du terrain environnant. Pour conserver la largeur de bande, on utilise une technique consistant à diviser un canal de réception en une pluralité de sous-bandes. Chaque sous-bande est convertie en canal à fréquence intermédiaire FI. Les canaux FI individuels sont combinés sous la forme d'un canal FI commun dans un additionneur. Ce processus est répété à une reprise afin de ramener les signaux à la bande de base, à laquelle ils sont numérisés et traités pour détecter la direction et l'identité de la source émettrice. Une pluralité d'unités ESM sont reliées à un centre de contrôle, dans lequel la position de l'émetteur radar est déterminée par triangulation. Par ailleurs, l'identité de l'émetteur est déterminée par comparaison avec des signatures d'émetteurs connues stockées dans une base de données.
