The present invention is for the use of certain oil soluble anti-oxidants, particularly certain derivatives of pentaerithrytol having sufficiently oil solubility and active C-S bonds, i.e., those containing a sulfur bonded to a carbon having a tertiary hydrogen and an electron withdrawing group, to enhance the oxidation resistance of lubricating oils and fuels, and to the novelformulated compositions containing these additives. Typically, a minor amount of additive, from about 0.05 to about 20 wt% is used. The additive has utility in a variety of different types of oils as an antioxidant.

La présente invention concerne l'utilisation de certains anti-oxydants solubles dans l'huile, en particulier de certains dérivés du pentaérithrytol possédant une solubilité suffisante dans l'huile et des liaisons C-S actives, p. ex., ceux renfermant un atome de soufre lié à un atome de carbone sur lequel se trouvent un atome d'hydrogène tertiaire et un groupement capteur d'électrons. Ces composés améliorent la résistance à l'oxydation des huiles de lubrification et des carburants. Cette invention concerne aussi de nouvelles compositions contenant ces additifs.
