In a process for working up combustion residues or slags, respectively, from waste incineration plants or steel works slags in a converter by reacting the molten slag with a metal bath while injecting carbon and oxygen into the metal bath, the converter is subdivided into three adjacent openly communicating zones. An afterburning space including at least one lance for afterburning directed onto the slag bath is arranged in the vicinity of the slag feed. By the lance, a circulating flow is built up above the slag bath. Following upon the afterburning zone, a metal bath sump is formed for reacting the metal bath with the slag bath and, after this, a settling zone is formed, from which the hot combustion gases and the slag melt are drawn off.

Procédé de traitement, dans un convertisseur, des résidus de combustion ou des scories, provenant respectivement d'installations d'incinération de déchets ou d'aciéries en faisant réagir la scorie en fusion avec un bain de métal tout en injectant du carbone et de l'oxygène dans le bain de métal; le convertisseur est subdivisé en trois zones adjacentes communiquant ouvertement.
