The invention relates to a combustion gas sensor, said sensor comprising one or more metallic oxides forming an adsorption semi-conductor having an electric resistance that varies according to the adsorbed gas, and said semi-conductor being a direct gas adsorption semi-conductor without catalyzed chemical reaction, wherein said sensor is designed for detecting nitrogen oxides in the case of a strong fire and/or said sensor is designed for detecting, in case of smoldering fire, the partially unburnt gases, in particular alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids or amines.
