This invention provides a much simplified latch including a ratchet that incorporates not only the fishmouth to capture the striker, but also a secondary latching feature such as a hook portion which extends in a secondary position over the fishmouth of the housing and prevents the striker from releasing until such time as the user operates an easily accessible release handle which may be illuminated.
