A download of a data file from a server computer (10) to a client computer (12) is monitored by the client computer. The download is restarted automatically if a failure occurs. A failure may be a timeout, a loss of a connection, data errors, or other errors that terminate the download. The download may be restarted by instructing the server computer to start reading from a specified offset corresponding to an amount of data that was received reliably by the client, so that data is not unnecessarily retransmitted. This process increases the likelihood that a download will complete successfully. The client program (20), if specialized for performing downloads, may be stored at the server. In response to a request to download a file, the client program is downloaded first, with the location of the requested file stored within the program. The client program is then executed on the client computer to transfer the requested file.
L'invention concerne un téléchargement d'un fichier de données, d'un ordinateur serveur (10) vers un ordinateur client (12), ledit téléchargement étant contrôlé par l'ordinateur client. Le téléchargement est redémarré automatiquement si une panne se produit. Une panne peut être un temps mort, une perte de connexion, des erreurs dans les données, ou d'autres erreurs qui mettent fin au téléchargement. Le téléchargement peut être redémarré en donnant l'instruction à l'ordinateur serveur de démarrer la lecture à partir d'un décalage spécifié correspondant à une quantité de données qui a été reçue de manière fiable par le client, et ce, afin que les données ne soient pas inutilement transmises une nouvelle fois. Ce processus augmente la probabilité de réussite d'un téléchargement. Le programme client (20), s'il est spécialisé dans l'exécution des téléchargements, peut être stocké au niveau du serveur. En réponse à une demande de téléchargement de fichier, le programme client est téléchargé en premier, l'emplacement du fichier demandé étant stocké à l'intérieur du programme. Le programme client est ensuite exécuté sur l'ordinateur client en vue de télécharger le fichier demandé.
