A composition of Sodium Metabisulphite and water can be used for the removal of red wine stains from fabrics, up to and including clothing, carpets, cottons, linens, etc. When this liquid form is poured or sprayed onto a fabric containing a stain formed from the tannin particles in red wine, the liquid composition can quickly break down the tannins in the wine and allow the red color to dissipate and dry without residue. If any residue were to remain, it would be left in a salt-like crystal form and can be brushed off, vacuumed or washed out of the material.
