Active acne and acneiform scars are treated by topical application of a composition containing lipoic acid and/or a lipoic acid derivative such as dihydrolipoic acid, a lipoic or dihydrolipoic acid ester, a lipoic or dihydrolipoic acid amide, a lipoic or dihydrolipoic acid salt, and mixtures of any of these to reduce erythema, pore size, and scarring. Topical application of lipoic acid and/or a lipoic acid derivative are advantageously used with at least one adjunct ingredient such as a retinoid, an antibiotic, or benzoyl peroxide conventionally used for acne, alone or in combination with dimethylaminoalcohol, an .alpha.-hydroxy acid such as glycolic acid, a tyrosine, tocotrienol, and/or a fatty acid ester of ascorbic acid. One preferred embodiment contains a combination of lipoic acid, an .alpha.-hydroxy acid, and dimethylaminoalcohol.
On traite l'acné active et les cicatrices acnéiformes par application topique d'une composition contenant un acide lipoïque et/ou un dérivé d'acide lipoïque sélectionné dans le groupe constitué par un acide dihydrolipoïque, un ester d'acide lipoïque ou dihydrolipoïque, un amide d'acide lipoïque ou dihydrolipoïque, un sel d'acide lipoïque ou dihydrolipoïque, et des mélanges de ceux-ci afin de réduire les érythèmes, la taille des pores, et les cicatrices. On utilise avantageusement une application topique d'acide lipoïque et/ou de dérivé d'acide lipoïque avec au moins un ingrédient auxiliaire tel qu'un rétinoïde, un antibiotique, ou un peroxyde de benzoyle conventionnellement utilisé pour l'acné, seul ou en combinaison avec un diméthylaminoalcool, un acide alpha -hydroxy tel qu'un acide glycolique, une tyrosine, un tocotriénol, et/ou un ester d'acide gras d'acide ascorbique. Selon un mode de réalisation préféré, la composition contient une combinaison d'acide lipoïque, d'acide alpha -hydroxy, et de diméthylaminoalcool.
