The invention relates to ATM cells having variable transmission rates and forming part of virtual connections within an ATM communications device (ATM- KE). On arrival of an ATM cell (z) for a virtual connection (vx), the setpoint arrival time (atletzt) is determined by a monitoring process on the basis of a monitoring time (ptletzt) derived from the transmission rate, so as to monitor the following ATM cell (z'). In case of a change in the transmission rate the setpoint arrival time (atletzt) is corrected by the value of the monitoring time (ptakt).

L'invention concerne des cellules ATM, aux vitesses de transmission variables, de liaisons virtuelles dans un équipement de communication ATM (ATM-KE). A l'arrivée d'une cellule ATM (z) d'une liaison virtuelle (vx), on détermine par une procédure de surveillance le temps d'arrivée théorique (at¿dernier?) à l'aide d'un temps de surveillance (pt¿dernier?), dérivé de la vitesse de transmission, pour surveiller la cellule ATM (z') suivante. En cas de modification de la vitesse de transmission, le temps d'arrivée théorique (at¿dernier?) est corrigé de la valeur correspondant au temps de surveillance (pt¿act?).
