An optical signal is coupled from a first end of a first optical fiber to a second end of a second optical fiber over an optical path by bending both the first end of the first optical fiber and the second end of the second optical fiber. By bending both the first end of the first optical fiber and the second end of the second optical fiber, the optical path may be directed from the first end to the second end and colinearity of the second optical fiber with the optical path may be increased. By increasing colinearity, losses that are associated with noncolinear coupling of an optical signal into a fiber may be reduced and preferably may be eliminated.
