Method for installing a structure offshore within the shelter of a protective device and protective device designed for carrying out this method. ABSTRACT A protective barrier (1) resting on the sea bed (2) by means of a base (6) is installed on a site (3). A passage (8) is made in the upper part of the barrier (1), to allow a floating structure (9) to enter the site (3) after the installation of the barrier. Legs (12) are then lowered to the sea bottom (2), in order to raise the deck (13) above the free surface (14) of the water. The passage (8) can subsequently be filled with a closing element in order to complete the barrier (1). The invention is used for the installation of an offshore oil-field exploration and production platform. Figure 1B
