A modular reclining chair and method for assembling it are disclosed. The modular reclining chair includes a simplified actuation mechanism which significantly reduces system complexity and weight while providing improved comfort to the seat occupant. The modular reclining chair further includes a seat frame having a vertical flange formed thereon, and guide means to position the seat closely adjacent the actuation mechanism, securing the frame in a lowered position with respect to the actuation mechanism, and likewise, with respect to the chair base and floor, in response to the reclining movement of the seat assembly.
