Abstract In cold climates it is common for automobiles to be equipped with block heaters so that they can be more easily started after they have been parked for some time, e.g. overnight, in sub-zero temperatures. The block heaters generally have a short electrical cord which must be connected to an extension cord which, in turn, is connected to an electrical outlet. If the extension cord is left outside when not in use it can be buried in snow or stolen. To overcome these problems, the present invention provides a device for carrying an extension cord (or a long cord on the block heater) with the automobile. The device is inexpensive and stores the cord in a convenient location for use, namely on the front bumper of the automobile. A preferred embodiment comprises a box having a base member with an open- topped-box shaped cover member hingedly attached to it. One of the members has hooks or a spool attached to it for carrying a cord. The device attaches to the front bumper and a licence plate can be attached to the device.
