The present invention provides a method of treating a cancer using a neurotoxin, preferably Botulinum toxin (~BTX~). The application of a neurotoxin around a cancer acts to decrease the contractile forces of the muscles surrounding a neoplasm which normally squeeze cancer cells through efferent channels leaving the cancer vicinity to distant sites. Also, the application of the toxin at sites distant from the cancer enhances cellular and humoral immunologic functions which further contributes to cancer cell death and spread. Following administration of botulinum toxin around and distant to a cancer, it is noticed that local, regional, and distant spread is reduced or eliminated. Immunomodulation with botulinum toxin is also valuable in treating other disease that may or may not be associated with cancers, such as viral-induced growths, viral conditions, fungal disease, chronic wounds, graft versus host disease, autoimmune disease, and HIV.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour traiter le cancer au moyen d'une neurotoxine, de préférence la toxine botulique (BTX). L'application d'une neurotoxine autour d'une zone cancéreuse permet de diminuer les forces contractiles des muscles entourant un néoplasme qui compriment normalement les cellules cancéreuses à travers différents canaux efférents partant de la proximité du cancer vers des sites éloignés. L'application de la toxine sur des sites éloignés du cancer améliore les fonctions immunologiques cellulaires et humorales, ce qui contribue à la mort et à la dissémination des cellules cancéreuses. Après l'administration de la toxine botulique autour du cancer et à distance du cancer, la dissémination locale, régionale, et éloignée est réduite ou éliminée. L'immunomodulation avec de la toxine botulique est également valable dans le traitement d'autres maladies qui sont ou ne sont pas associées au cancer, telles que des croissances induites par des virus, des états pathologiques viraux, des maladies fongiques, des blessures chroniques, les réactions du greffon contre l'hôte, des maladies auto-immunes, et le VIH.
