An easily synthesized catalyst for medium pressure solution polymerization is an unbridged, group 4 metal complex having a non-bulky cyclopentadienyl ligand and a very bulky nitrogen ligand. The simple and robust catalyst provides high molecular weight polymer under high temperature solution polymerization conditions. The catalyst must be activated with an ionic-type activator as it is not active when used with a conventional alumoxane activator.
