The catheter within body structures includes a shaft and a core member to facilitate moving the catheter through a lumen, and to reduce the likelihood that the catheter will kink or bend improperly. This metallic core member extends from the hub to some point distal, and may extend to the distal tip. The distal end of a catheter balloon may be secured to the core member during manufacture. The core member has a ziggzagged or helix shape at the proximal end which is friction fit into the hub lumen, and may have a pointed tip that embeds in the hub inner wall. During manufacture, the core member can be secured within the hub with reduced reliance on adhesives or molding and may be press fitted into the hub lumen. The catheter is more easily manufactured, and has an increased volume and reduced obstruction by adhesive in comparison with other methods of securing the core member.

Selon l'invention, le cathéter comprend dans ses structures une tige et un élément central facilitant son passage dans une lumière ce qui permet de réduire la probabilité d'un mauvais fléchissement ou courbure. Cet élément central métallique s'étend depuis l'embout jusqu'à un certain point distal, et peut s'étendre jusqu'à l'extrémité distale. Lors de la fabrication, l'extrémité distale d'un ballon de cathéter peut être fixée à l'élément central. L'extrémité distale de l'élément central possède une forme en zigzag ou hélicoïdale, cette extrémité étant ajustée par friction dans la lumière de l'embout, et pouvant posséder une terminaison en pointe qui se loge dans la paroi intérieure de l'embout. Lors de la fabrication, l'élément central peut être fixé à l'intérieur de l'embout sans avoir recours à des adhésifs ou à un moulage et peut être ajusté en force dans la lumière de l'embout. Le cathéter est fabriqué plus facilement, possède un volume amélioré et présente moins d'obstruction due aux adhésifs en comparaison avec d'autres procédés de fixation de l'élément central.
