A process for making an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is disclosed. The process is performed with a supported quinolinoxy-containing single-site catalyst in the presence of a non-alumoxane activator, but in the absence of an .alpha.-olefin, an aromatic solvent, and hydrogen. The process significantly increases the catalyst activity and the UHMWPE produced has improved tensile and impact properties.

L'invention concerne un processus de préparation de polyéthylène de poids moléculaire ultra élevé (UHMWPE). Le processus s'effectue avec un catalyseur supporté à site simple contenant du quinolinoxy, en présence d'un activateur de non-alumoxane, en absence d'.alpha.-oléfine, de solvant aromatique et d'hydrogène. Ledit processus augmente sensiblement l'activité du catalyseur et l'UHMWPE produit présente des propriétés améliorées en termes de traction et d'impact.
