A symmetric block cipher that uses key-dependant structure is provided. According to one aspect, a data encryption system cryptographically transforms between plaintext and ciphertext by performing a plurality of consecutive transformation rounds. The data encryption system comprises a round function block for performing a round function operation on a data input sub-block and on a transformation round associated subkey. The round function operation is dependent on the transformation round associated subkey.
