The present invention relates to promoting whole body health in humans and animals by using topical oral compositions comprising a safe and effective amount of chlorite ion in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, said compositions being effective in controlling bacterial-mediated diseases and conditions present in the oral cavity and inhibiting the spread into the bloodstream of oral pathogenic bacteria and associated bacterial toxins and resultant inflammatory cytokines and mediators. The present invention also encompasses methods of use of these compositions by topically applying to the oral cavity, a safe and effective amount of chlorite ion to promote and/or enhance whole body health in humans and other animals.

L'invention vise à renforcer la santé globale du corps chez l'être humain et l'animal au moyen de compositions orales topiques contenant une quantité efficace et inoffensive d'ion chlorite mélangé à un excipient pharmaceutiquement acceptable. Ces compositions permettent de lutter efficacement contre des maladies et des états pathologiques dus aux bactéries de la cavité buccale, et d'inhiber la dispersion dans la circulation sanguine de bactéries buccales pathogènes, de toxines bactériennes associées et des cytokines et médiateurs inflammatoires qui en résultent. L'invention concerne aussi des procédés d'utilisation de ces compositions, qui comprennent l'application topique dans la cavité buccale d'une quantité efficace et inoffensive d'ion chlorite pour renforcer et/ou activer la santé globale du corps chez l'être humain et l'animal.
