ABSTRACT PREVENTION OF BIRTH DEFECTS AND CHILDHOOD CANCER The method of the current invention to prevent birth defects and cancer is to administer low daily doses of fluoride to a mother-to-be, for the first two months of pregnancy. In methods of preventing birth defects the general idea of the current invention - using a nutrient early in pregnancy before the defect occurs - is a well established medical practice. The one new feature of the current invention is that of using fluoride as the nutrient. This is not entirely new, as bone meal, which contains fluoride, has been used for this purpose in animal diets. Folic acid is the most well known nutrient used to prevent birth defects in humans. In methods of preventing cancer, there are methods that teach lifestyle modifications for us humans. In animal tests there are experimental programs which are quite close to the current invention. These experiments were on preventing a predisposition to cancer, early in pregnancy, using a nutrient (selenium), and the model is very similar to the basis of current invention. The truly unique feature of the current invention is using the nutrient fluoride.
