- 25 - ABSTRACT Disclosed is a measuring catheter having light-emitting and light-receiving optical fibers disposed within the catheter, the end faces of the light- emitting and light-receiving optical fibers being fixed to the outer sidewall of the catheter so that they are opposite to each other with a predetermined space therebetween. The degree of oxygen saturation or flow rate of the circulating blood can be determined in real time by supplying both measuring light and reference light to the light-emitting optical fiber of this catheter and measuring the transmittances of the two types of light that are collected by the light-receiving optical fiber after having passed through the blood present in the gap between the end faces of both optical fibers.
