12 ABSTRACT An adapter for connecting a compact discharge lamp (1) to a household voltage via an electrical adapter circuit (8,8a). The adapter comprises a two-part housing including an upper housing part (9) with a centrally located holder portion (10) for receiving and holding the base portion of the discharge lamp. This holder portion projects downwards in the housing. A lower housing part (6) is provided with terminals (7a,7b), which are connectable to the household voltage. The electrical adapter circuit is provided on at least one circuit card (8) with electrical components (8a) attached thereto in a sub- stantially toroidal space inside the housing. The lower housing part (6) is provided with an inner portion (12), which extends to the bottom (10e) of the holder portion (10) of the upper housing part (9) and which is secured thereto by central fastening means (12a) so as to hold the two parts of the housing together.
