- 10 - ABSTRACT A shaft seal arrangement for the removal of liquid from a cavity that surrounds a rotatable shaft, the liquid having leaked into the cavity from a seal gap. The cavity and/or the machine elements which define the cavity are provided with a heat source for the evaporation of the leaked liquid. The heat source ensures that the leaked liquid is evaporated even if a machine rotating the shaft is only operated for a short period of time, in which case the heat generated by operation of the machine itself would not be sufficient to evaporate liquid leaked into the cavity.
