ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gel composition of paste-like viscosity for oral treatment of milk fever. The composition comprises in part a non-digestible water binding swelling agent which holds and later releases in the animal's gut a source of water soluble calcium ion. The method of administration eliminates that hazards of injectables and the hazards of oral liquid solu- tions.
