A disposable diaper (10) having an absorbent core (38) disposed between a facing sheet (34) and backing sheet (36) is disclosed. The diaper presents prestretched elastic means (24) disposed along edge portions (25) of the diaper. The elastic means (24) is surrounded by a pocket of nonwoven material along the edge portions (25). Preferably, the pocket is formed by the facing sheet (34).
